A Community Responds
in Hard Times
Two years of recession could have spelled disaster for Atlanta. With more lives at risk, more suffering in every community and the demand for social services skyrocketing, Atlantans could easily have made decisions that would have crippled United Way’s ability to respond to soaring community needs. We could have dialed back our philanthropy as so many other cities had done.
But we didn’t.
As you’ll read in this report, the community’s response – in dollars, engagement and action – has been outstanding. More citizens, donors, business leaders, and politicians have stepped up and chosen to be involved at a time when we need them most. Giving. Advocating. Volunteering.
This report is dedicated to their service – and it’s a request for more help. We need everyone now. If you’ve ever thought about helping your community, this is the time.
Read on to learn how the teamwork of United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta and hundreds of partners helped metro Atlanta weather the storm in 2010 and put us on a path toward solving our toughest social issues.
